The Forest Ecology program provides students the opportunity to interact with the forest and understand the importance of forest environments.
While exploring the ways trees grow and change, learn about the role of trees and the living things that can be found among them drawing the observations from the field experiments.
While investigating the way living things grow and change students will identify the connections among living and non-living things in a forest. This program is a chance for students to engage with and explore nature. This hands on and active experience provides learners the opportunity to develop a sense of curiosity towards their natural environment. Students will be encouraged to pose questions and find answers, through self-directed and guided exploring of a forest Ecosystem.
The module has 7 units and 39 interactive lesson plans, making the learning experiential.
1. Exploring the world of plants: Unit has 8 lesson plans covering the classification, anatomy and importance of Botany and Forestry.
2. Biomes and Ecosystems: 4 lesson plans talking about biomes and mapping the vegetation of India.
3. Introduction to ecology: 7 lessons introducing to the field of ecology and ecosystems their interrelationships etc. Organismal, Population and community ecology.
4. Learning life cycles of plants: 4 lessons on photosynthesis etc
5. Understanding water as a life supporting living system: 6 lessons on Water, watershed, ecology and history of river. Estuaries and Mangrove.
6. Endangered Species and Extinction: 7 lessons Species endangered with respect to habitats and reasons.
7. Marine Environment: 3 lessons Understanding the beach ecology and diversity under water.
Adventure activities are :
Cycling (150 Kms),
Beach Trek (16Kms),
Scuba dive and Snorkeling.
Participants are provided with :
Educational Kit: Information sheets, worksheets, Hand microscope(Foldscope), dissection box, materials like beaker to conduct paper chromatography.
