Due to its rich forest cover, it brings an average rainfall of 3000 mm. This rain forms numerous waterfalls in the valleys. Hence, the district is also known as '"District of Waterfalls". It is a heaven for tourists. Uttara Kanara was home of the Kadamba Kingdom, who started ruling at Banavasi. The district has varied culture, art, and history. It is also rich in its both terrestrial and coastal biodiversity.
