October 14 (Fri): Delhi to Kathgodam/Haldwani (by train/bus; nearest airport is 35km away at
Pantnagar)
Land at Delhi. Overnight journey from Delhi to Kathgodam/Haldwani (~6-7hrs)
October 15 (Sat): Haldwani – Bageshwar – Khirkiya | Drive – 230km, ~10hrs
Drive from Haldwani to Khirkiya.
October 16 (Sun): Khirkiya (2300M) – Khati – Ritang – Jatoli (2450M) | Trek – 13km, 6-7hrs
Easy trek in the verdant Rhododendron, oak jungle with gradual height gain.
October 17 (Mon): Jatoli – Kathaliya (3250M) | Trek – 12km, 7-8hrs
Easy Trek along beautiful Sundardhunga valley.
October 18 (Tue): Kathaliya – Maiktoli Base Camp (4000M) – Kathaliya | Trek – 7km, ~10hrs
A day full of adventure while trekking to Maiktoli Base Camp. It involves walking over a glacier to
get to base camp to watch jaw dropping scenes. No need to carry backpack on this day. A day
pack with water bottle and snacks is enough.
October 19 (Wed): Kathaliya – Baluni Top – Kathaliya – Jatoli | Trek – 20km, 8hrs
Leave for Baluni Top early morning just after morning tea and snacks. 4km of steep climb to Baluni
Top richly rewarding as one gets to see amazing panoramic views. Get back to Kathaliya to have
lunch and leave for Jatoli.
October 20 (Thur): Jatoli – Khati | Trek – 8km, 2hrs
Very easy downhill walk to Khati. We start bit early which would give us ample time to spend
time with villagers at Khati.
October 21 (Fri): Khati – Dhakuri – Loharkhet| Trek – 18km, 7hrs
7km uphill trek to Dhakuri (2680M). Have lunch and carry on with 11km downhill trek to
Loharkhet. Overnight at Loharkhet.
October 22 (Sat): Loharkhet – Baijnath Temple – Almora – Kathgodam | Drive – ~250km, ~10hrs
Drive in a taxi from Loharkhet to Haldwani. On the way visit 11th century A.D. temple complex at
Baijnath, Kaichi temple and folk and culture museum displaying artefacts, culture of Uttarakhand
and work of famous Indian archaeologist Dr Yashodhar Mathpal (most of the work is focussed on
Stone Age inscriptions). Overnight train from Kathgodam/Haldwani to Delhi.
October 23 (Sun): Buffer Day .
October 24 (Sun): Delhi –
Morning flight/train to respective destinations.
Points to remember Points to remember
1. Road from Lokharkhet to Khirkiya is motorable but sometimes is closed due to rain (rain is
unlikely in May). In that case we need to trek from Loharkhet to Khirkiya via Dhakuri which
will add one day to itinerary.
2. Keep your return flight flexible or keep a spare day in case we need to extend for a day.
Spare day if not used can be utilised to visit places in Delhi.
3. There can be minor changes in itinerary depending upon how team members are feeling.
4. Please bring your own utensils (plate, cup and spoon) for better hygiene.
5. Essentials warm jacket, inner thermals (upper and lower), gloves, woollen cap, sun cap,
sun glasses (with plastic frame), personal toiletries, sunscreen,
4-5 pairs of socks,
poncho/rain proof jacket, backpack rain cover, torch.
